Above The Pie Plate is a cozy, private accommodation housed in
the former homestead of George Lawrence, one of the founders of
Lawrenceville (later to be renamed the Village of Virgil).
Built in the early 1800's, the house still features original wide plank
wood floors, a fieldstone foundation and antique furniture and light
fixtures.
Decorated with warm, vibrant colours in a French country
style, your host has created a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere for
guests to enjoy their stay.
The private entrance landing has a cozy place to sit while watching
the sunset or enjoying your morning cappuccino while taking in the
aromas of the home bakery below.
A large, handpainted rooster greets you as you walk through the
door into the fully equipped kitchen.
The large living room is a perfect place to relax while curling up to
read your favourite book. A daybed, nestled in an alcove is ideal if
you are travelling with family members.
When you step up into the bedroom with its queensized duvet-
covered bed and antique furniture, you are immediately surrounded
by comfort and relaxation.
The view from the cushioned window seat is the old brick church
across the street which is now home to Europa Antiques Shop.
The large bathroom has a whirlpool tub, where you can unwind
under the overhead skylight.
But, of course, one of the best features is that your accommodation
is above The Pie Plate Bakery and Cafe, where you might like to
enjoy a piece of fresh Niagara peach pie on the wrap around
verandah.
